The Early Warning System Team

Representatives of civil society organizations and community-based groups devote staff time to review, publish and distribute project information to those nearest the proposed projects. This is a partial list.  Some organizations are not listed for safety and security reasons.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, the Early Warning System is co-administered by a network composed of Cohesión Comunitaria e Innovación Social (CCIS), Colectivo sobre Financiamiento e Inversiones Chinas, Derechos Humanos y Ambiente (CICDHA), Fundación para el Desarrollo de Políticas Sustentables (FUNDEPS), Instituto Maíra, Interamerican Association for Environmental Defense (AIDA), Sustentarse, Plataforma Internacional Contra la Impunidad (PICI), and the International Accountability Project (IAP). 

Alexandre Andrade Sampaio is a lawyer, activist and specialist in access to information and business and human rights based in Brazil. Alex is the Policy and Programs Coordinator at the International Accountability Project. Connect with Alex on projects in the Americas.

Carla Garcia Zendejas is an environmental and human rights lawyer accompanying communities to advocate for their rights internationally. Carla supports cases and campaigns as Director of the People, Land & Resources program at the Center for International Environmental Law in Washington, DC.

Daniel Faggiano is an anthropologist and human rights defender. He is the president of the Instituto Maíra in Brazil. In harmony with the yearnings of the whole human race, the Instituto Maíra envisions a world in which each community can critically reflect about its present and consciously determine its future.

Elias Jika is a community organizer and activist based in Lilongwe, Malawi. Elias is a Program Coordinator at the International Accountability Project. Contact Elias about community-led development in Southern Africa, North Africa and the Middle East.

Florencia Ortúzar is a Chilean lawyer and works at AIDA focusing on the climate change program  where she monitors climate financial flows, with the objective of ensuring that funds toward mitigation and adaptation measures are designed with and for local communities, always favoring the protection of nature.

Gonzalo Roza has a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and coordinates the Global Governance area of FUNDEPS (Foundation for the Development ofSustainable Policies), where he works to ensure transparency, participation and the promotion and protection of human rights in decision-making processes at the local, national and international levels.

Jocelyn Soto Medallo, is an environmental rights lawyer, policy specialist and data analyst based in Malaysia. Jocelyn is the Advocacy and Policy Director at the International Accountability Project. Connect with Jocelyn about the Early Warning System’s global community response and policy work.

Maia Seeger is a journalist and specialist in communications and community engagement & development. Maia is Director of Sustentarse, a non profit organization based in Chile.

Nadine Oficial is a researcher and data analyst at the International Accountability Project based in the Philippines. Nadine focuses on the Early Warning System.

Natalia Lueje has worked for more than 10 years in different areas of social and environmental sustainability. Her lines of research and work are: socio-environmental conflicts, political and popular ecology, extractivism, citizen participation, territorial identities and resistance, and education for sustainability. She is a Coordinadora Territorial in Sustentarse .

Ryan Schlief is a life-long activist and campaigner of local and international human and environmental rights campaigns. Ryan is the Executive Director at the International Accountability Project. Contact Ryan on fundraising, tech and all things Early Warning System.

Sandra Juan Delgado is a political scientist, environmental activist, feminist, and specialist in sustainable development and international migration. She collaborates with CCIS focusing on community-led development and the protection of human rights and participation in decision-making processes.

Suhayla Bazbaz Kuri founded and directs Community Cohesion and Social Innovation since 2009. She is a political scientist and internationalist specialised in human rights, public participation, sustainable development and gender-based approaches. She coordinates the Initiative for Chiapas and the Yucatan Peninsula (IPYUCC) to reduce power and information asymmetries faced by indigenous and afromexican peoples, women and youths to participate and advocate throughout the decision-making cycle regarding megaprojects likely to affect them as well as the co-administration for Mexico of the Early Warning System.
